Itchiku Tsujigahana

There is a kimono artist who re-invented once disappeared technique of dyeing fabrics.

Tsujigahana dyeing is still a mystery to many but people defines his dyeing as Itchiku Tsujigahana.

His almost insane passion for the re-invention is powerful knowing him devoting some 40 years but every kimono I saw at the museum was quite impressive.

Mountain with burning-red maples, Mount Fuji and Kimono art titled Gaudi… Looking at Hawaii’s sunset or crashing waves in the ocean, I sometimes wonder how he would express these into his Kimono.
